OUR life before the goats
Hey there! We are Brian and Mackenzie Treadwell and we are the proud owners of Heavenly Pines Family Farm! Our story before the goats started a while ago. We were high school sweethearts and began dating when we were 16 and 17 years old! Because of this we have gotten to experience so many fun adventures together, from prom and graduation to road trips all over the US, and now parents to an amazing little boy! Since 2011, life has been great. The two of us knew we both loved animals and did not want a life without them, so we adopted our first dog, Jack, who we have now had for 9 years. We attended college together, where we both majored in Elementary Education.
In June of 2016, we got married and started renting a little house in town. After living there for a year, we knew town life was not for us so we decided to make the big commitment of buying a home. Our home is a farmette and everything we have ever dreamed of! Once we moved there, we knew we wanted to raise some kind of livestock, but we weren't sure what we wanted yet. I (Mackenzie) mentioned to Brian that I would enjoy having some goats on the farm. At first, Brian was not sure about it, but finally gave in after some persuasion! So began the obsession of raising goats. We started with two nubian crosses from my grandmother's farm. After that, we found out that our friends were raising myotonics. We reached out to them and purchased our first 3 myotonic goats to have on the farm as our "pets". The goats grew on our hearts very quickly. The following summer, we attended a MGR show in Springfield, Illinois. After being at the show for 10 minutes we were in love. From that moment we knew that we wanted to raise and show this amazing breed. We went home and knew that we needed to start looking at genetics and figure out what would be best for our farm and starting our herd. We then purchased our first herd sire, Buck Creek Moonshine. He was and will always be the foundation of Heavenly Pines and his legacy lives on here in many of his daughters that reside on our farm! Since then, we have purchased others from great breeders in our registry and are continuing to grow our herd and perfect it!
Brian and I enjoy the summers off by showing goats! I (Mackenzie) am now a stay at home mom with our little boy and Brian teaches High Schoo History in Ashton, Illinois. We are so happy that we now have Theodore, our son, to give this great livestock experience to. We have two dogs that we cherish like our own children, Jack and Itasca! We also have three horses and a miniature! Thunder, Marley, Lightning and Theo's pony Poppy!
We are doing our best to raise healthy, happy animals that meet the breed description. We made the decision in 2018 to have our herd (all goats one year and older) tested for Johnes, CAE and CL when we decided we wanted to go the direction of raising show quality animals. We are pleased to say that the results have been negative. These tests will continue to be done annually. All of our goats are dewormed on an as needed basis and have their hooves trimmed every 6 weeks.
All babies born on our farm are up-to-date on their vaccines and have been dewormed at the time of their sale. All kids, with the exception of wethers, will come with registration application. All kids (with the exception of an occasional bottle baby) will be disbudded before being sold unless the buyer specifically requests the horns be left in tact. If buyers are new to the Myotonic Goat Registry a new breeder packet will also be provided.
We hope you want to join the Myotonic adventure and reach out to us with any questions!
